Jirka has progressed at LOGEX from the role of Systems Analyst to Scrum Master. In this interview, he shares what inspired him to make such a significant change and how he managed the challenging early days. He openly describes what he enjoys most about his work, the importance of company culture to him, and why he finds his role so meaningful. Happy reading!
I know you started at LOGEX as a Systems Analyst and have experienced various changes in the company. What led you to transition to the role of Scrum Master?
I joined LOGEX over six years ago as a Systems Analyst, and one of my first tasks was to formalize our processes. I spent a month studying different frameworks for software development and ultimately decided to try out Scrum. I ran a pilot on one of our projects, and we concluded that it was the right direction to pursue. For a while, I considered staying in the role of Scrum Master, but eventually, I was more drawn to testing and quality assurance work. However, around a year ago, I felt I needed a new challenge, a fresh source of motivation. I enjoyed my work as an analyst, but it felt like it was time for a change.
How was the start in the new role?
It was challenging, especially during the first three months. In the beginning, I was still partly involved in my previous team, trying to pass on as much of my knowledge from the project as possible. Balancing the two roles made it harder to concentrate fully. Fortunately, I had tremendous support from Jirka Zajíc, whose two teams I was taking over.
Can you be more specific about what your onboarding as a Scrum Master looked like?
The most important thing for me was to understand the processes as they were set up in each team, the ways people worked and communicated, what they expected from me as a Scrum Master, and the current lifecycle phase of each tool. So, my onboarding involved several sessions with Jirka Zajíc, who introduced me to all these aspects. I took notes and asked detailed questions. Then I attended the various Scrum ceremonies and observed the team at work. After some time, Jirka and I switched roles: I took over facilitating the meetings while he observed and gave me feedback.
Scrum has been a constant in LOGEX since the whole company works with it. But what felt most new to you? Were there any areas where you felt less confident?
One of the biggest challenges was facilitating meetings while also taking notes on discussions, tasks, conclusions, and decisions. It’s quite a multitasking job—you’re observing the team, listening to individuals, trying to simplify and frame ideas clearly, and also keeping an eye on time. Sometimes, it ended up where I couldn’t even understand my own notes, or we would finish a meeting ten minutes late. But over time, I’m definitely getting better at it.
What would you say you enjoy most about the job?
I really enjoy bringing structure to the process and seeing how it helps people work more smoothly, freeing them up to focus. Watching teams grow, improve their collaboration, and refine communication is also incredibly satisfying. The work has real meaning for me, and the company culture at LOGEX is fantastic.
If you had the choice again, would you take the same path?
Definitely. I feel it’s helped me grow, and I’m constantly learning new things. It was absolutely the right move.
Looking at the company overall, what do you like most about working here?
It’s definitely the people. We have really motivated and capable team members who approach their work with openness and professionalism. Even as we’ve gone through changes, LOGEX’s company culture remains constructive. We trust each other to do our best. I also appreciate that there’s room for change—if someone has an idea for improvement, there’s the opportunity to express it and make it happen.
Plus, having the office almost in the center of Brno is a nice bonus.
What are some of the biggest challenges you face?
Managing teams in different countries is tough. Meeting face-to-face just once a year brings its own challenges. On the other hand, looking back, it’s amazing to see what we’ve managed to accomplish regardless. Another challenge is the constant change, as the company evolves and grows.
What was your favorite company event this year?
The Summer Party, for sure! It’s fantastic to meet outdoors, play volleyball, bowling, or giant chess, and enjoy some great food.
How did you enjoy our first (after many years) Family Day?
It was great! The kids were thrilled—they’d been looking forward to it all summer. They absolutely loved the bouncy castle. But the day went by quickly, and it was a bit noisy and intense inside. I’m hoping for good weather next year so we can be outdoors!
Thank you for the interview.
